A NEW TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WITH THE A380

Brandimage – Desgrippes & Laga, Air France’s design partner, has been participating in the preparation of this new aircraft since 2003: Interior design, creation of new spaces, graphic style and user interface for the in-flight entertainment screens, and other marketing elements for the launch.
Comfort, calm and spaceWith great attention to the smallest details, the layout of the cabin was designed to make traveling on this Super-jumbo aircraft an experience of comfort and wellbeing, evoking the atmosphere aboard the great transatlantic ocean liners. The colors, tones and lighting have been carefully chosen to create a serene and relaxing ambiance, further enhancing the impression of roomy calm in this enormous aircraft. Wherever one’s gaze falls – the winding staircase, the curves of the gallery, or the star-like lighting of the bars – it is met with a quiet feeling of serenity. The cabin harmony was designed by Brandimage – Desgrippes & Laga in collaboration with Eric Gizard. The overall atmosphere, colors and materials are specific to the A380, and the soft, elegant palette was especially chosen to adapt to its particular volumes.
Exclusive new features of the A380Brandimage has accompanied Air France since 2003 in refining the interior layout of this new aircraft with the objective of offering its passengers optimal comfort. New areas have been created like the gallery which is dedicated to discovery and culture, a separate changing cabin allowing Premiere clients to change, a new sophisticated lighting system, which adapts to certain moments of the flight, new bars, and a richer, user-friendly in-flight entertainment system.
The gallery, an Air France exclusiveLocated on the upper deck, this area offers Premiere-First and Affaires-Business passengers cultural exhibitions for relaxation and discovery. Exhibitions are exclusively conceived for Air France by major museums around the world and are cleverly presented on three integrated screens. This type of open-plan area is the most spacious offered by any airline.
The « mood-lighting » conceptThe A380 is equipped with a specially developed lighting system to enhance the feeling of wellbeing. Aware that light plays an important role in synchronizing the internal body clock, this system offers different lighting ambiances depending on the various phases of the flight. In collaboration with Eric Gizard, Brandimage has developed several lighting scenarios that adapt to certain moments of the flight: orange reds lend a warm feeling for meals, soft blues in the evening, clear and refreshing tones for the morning… The brightest moments are for boarding and disembarking. While the aircraft is taxiing, the lighting is dimmed to adapt to take-off and landing. Softly changing lighting accompanies the moments of waking.
In-flight entertainment systemFor the new in-flight VOD entertainment system of the A380, Brandimage has created new graphics with an improved intuitive navigation, which facilitates access to a wide range of video, audio, and game programs on large-sized screens.
A holistic image management program for Air FranceThis project is part of the overall brand management mission that Brandimage - Desgrippes & Laga has been carrying out for Air France since 1999. It is one of the major programs being launched in 2009 following the opening of the exclusive First Class lounge in Roissy Charles de Gaulle, the launch of Air France’s new logo in February 2009, and the new Premium Voyageur cabin outfit which was announced in March.
The new Air France Airbus A380Air France is the first European carrier to operate this Super-jumbo, and the first airline in the world to offer transatlantic flights between Europe and the USA on this aircraft. Flights between Paris and New York JFK started on November 23, and the next destination will be Johannesburg in early 2010. The A380 is the largest and quietest aircraft in its category, and with reduced gas emissions it is also one of the most environmentally-friendly aircrafts today.
Key Figures• The Air France A380 can carry 538 passengers, which is equivalent to the combined capacity of a Boeing 777-200 and an Airbus A340-300 • Air France’s A380 offers passengers 3 classes: La Premiere-First with 9 seats on the main deck, Affaires-Business with 80 seats on the upper deck, and Voyageur-Economy with 449 seats spread over the two decks • 22 flight attendants to serve the 538 passengers • 220 windows over the two decks • 50% more floor space than that of a B747 • With the wingspan of the A380 reaching 80 meters, runways have had to be enlarged so that the engines don’t damage the grass • With 75 grams of CO2 produced per passenger per kilometer, the A380 is one of the most environmentally-friendly aircrafts.
