CHALLENGE

In 2006, the Maison de la Chine asked us to overhaul its internet sites in order to develop its e-commerce activity. This involved translating its top-tier positioning online as a specialist in cultural travel, and presenting its complex and personalized offerings. Much more than a travel agency, the Maison de la Chine welcomes you in its warm and friendly location on the Place Saint Sulpice in Paris, where you can enjoy a cup of tea, visit an exhibition or attend lectures to prepare for or prolong a trip. Our goal was to offer the same personalized welcome on the web site, and to invite site visitors on a sensorial journey.


SOLUTION

Capitalizing on the style developed by the Maison de la Chine for its catalogues, we have enriched the graphic vocabulary to translate all aspects of the brand, and to offer the user a more interactive experience. A complete overhaul of the information architecture has allowed us to reorganize the contents in a way that enhances the richness of the offerings and clearly presents all the services. Thanks to the XHTML & CSS technologies we succeeded in reconciling the Maison de la Chine’s ambition within budgetary limitations by quickly customizing the sites for other destinations: Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, North and South America, Africa… Special attention was given to the voyage presentations, with the goal of leading the site visitors to discover the itineraries—an attractive and interactive invitation to travel. Each trip is revealed step by step in a fluid and intuitive manner. An interactive map allows users to locate their positions on the itinerary as they glide the curser over a timeline.
